I am blowing this popsicle stand like a herd of ants from household Raid. Yes, ladies and gentleman, I get to go to my home state of Oregon for the weekend. And I couldn't be more excited. The closer it gets to my Missouri trip in July the more I itch to take a break from the manageable house of cards I've been building around myself and Sue to survive. They were calling, those adorable munchkins of mine, and I answered. I'm coming to visit boys! I'm ready to be smothered from sunup to snore with peanut-and-jelly kisses, bickering, fighting, selfish attention and lots and lots of hugs.
I have the unfortunate but financially savvy joy of working Friday for 9 hours, nearly 12 counting lunch and commute, before beginning my 6 hour jaunt. My security with this and the other upcoming traveling trips is the location of where I live. It's a beautiful thing living on base in a duplex smack dab in the middle of police force neighbors and big strong men who are rarely gone from home. And I'm not just stating that disclaimer to scare the robbers. Attempt to break into my house and Justin will sic my rottie and his two giant black german shephards on your ass. You can run but I don't think you can hide. Ever seen COPS? Watch it and you'll get the idea. Enough with the threats, I know, because you all love me and wouldn't do me harm! The other great thing is having neighbors who adore my dog and wish they could adopt her as their second child. This means that pet sitting is generally taken care of with only the price of dog food and occasional child sitting to cover the expenses aka FREE.
The only sore part about the entire weekend trip will be the 18+ driving hours in very few days. I begin the trip driving from eastern Washington to eastern Oregon via the circuitous routes dictated by the departments of transportation in both states. The most direct path being 3 hours southwest followed by 3 hours southeast. Were they drunk when they designed the road system? Maybe you should step away from the vodka bottle before designing buddy, the road weary travelers would appreciate it. Lucky for me it's summer, and will be sunny later and I'm very familiar with the first 3 hours. The not so lucky part is that I don't drive that well in the dark and I've never, I repeat NEVER, been to eastern Oregon. Than I made the mistake of volunteering to cart the kids from my sister/bro-in-laws to my folks on Sunday. That's another 6 hour drive due west. Last but not least this trip will wrap up with a 6 hour return drive home from the folks Monday morning.
Crazy you say? The Sunday trip was two-fold. I get to spend some time connecting with my nephews and visit my parents. I also get to renew my car registration tags on my vehicle Monday morning. The tags that are set to expire Sunday. The tags that, once discovered last night, caused me to have nightmares about being banned from base. I just kept seeing the same scene of the Security Forces banning me from base for inadequate registration. They wouldn't even listen to the reasoning of "but I LIVE here!!" With that panic shadowing my brain I extended my weekend trip to include an unpaid day off, Monday, and extra driving time. A win-lose no changeable situation. The other nightmare was that I would have to cancel my trip and spend Friday getting new license plates, tags, emissions testing and drivers license. No friggin' thank you.
Hold on ... why am I blogging? I have to pack! And pay bills! And get some sleep! Ahhh. And I will talk to you later. Possibly Monday if I'm not too exhausted from my trip. New pictures to come as always. Tidbits from a new town and bragging rights as an auntie. You should know by now if it moves, it gets shoot .. er .. shot.
